Epoxy Paint Application Methods
Epoxy paints are applied on garage floors, basement floors, concrete floors, showroom floors, workshop floors, laundry room floors and even in bars as they are considered as strong paints. Another important reason for applying epoxy paints on the above areas is due to their ability for resisting grease, oil and dirt accumulation apart from protecting the floors from tear and wear.
Before applying epoxy paint, the floors should be prepared. When the floors and surface is not prepared or done short it might not offer a good finish. First the floor has to be cleaned using a brush with hard bristles and if any resultant debris found, it should also be cleaned. Application of a mild acid and subsequent scrubbing would also yield good results when applying epoxy paints. The process is normally called as acid etching.
Then the concrete floor can be scrubbed and cleaned using warm soap water solution. If the floor has some contaminants (water soluble) they have to be removed using a degreaser and then rinsing it that too with water. It should be kept in mind that mild acids do not remove oils and grease from the garage floors. When the surface feels sticking, the degreasing process should be repeated again.
Prior to the application of the epoxy paint the floor should be left for drying overnight and the very important thing to remember is to apply epoxy paint to get a consistent finish. The humidity of the application surface should be in an acceptable level in order to prevent the paint coating from discoloring and blistering. Normally two or three coats of epoxy paint application are sufficient. When done properly it lasts for a longer time.
